Residency visa health insurance
Health insurance
for your visa
For the non-lucrative visa and other residency permits, the consulate asks for private health insurance with no co-payments and no waiting periods. We tell you which AXA plan to ask for.

consulate’s list
Look at your consulate’s document list and tell us what it says about insurance.
We tell you whether the policy we propose meets it, and if it does not, we say so before you pay anything.
Questions about the visa
Your questions answered
Is travel insurance enough for a residency visa?
Usually not. For residency the consulate asks for full health insurance from an insurer authorised in Spain, with no co-payments and no waiting periods. Travel insurance does not meet those conditions.
Can I take out the policy from outside Spain?
Email or call us and we tell you which details and documents AXA needs in your case before we prepare the policy.
Do I have to pay the whole year up front?
Some consulates ask for the year to be paid and others do not. Tell us what yours asks for and we take it into account when preparing the policy and the payment method.
What happens when I renew my residency?
Renewals ask for health insurance again. You can keep the same policy if it still meets the requirements; once you are a resident you can also move to a plan with co-payment and a lower premium.
What about my family?
Everyone on the visa application needs to be insured. You can all be on the same policy: tell us who is coming and their ages.
What is a waiting period and why does it matter?
It is the time after signing during which a particular cover cannot yet be used. For the visa, the consulate asks for insurance with no waiting periods, meaning everything is covered from day one.
